Radiation and Public Health Project
The Radiation and Public Health Project (RPHP) is a nonprofit educational and scientific organization, established by scientists and physicians dedicated to understanding the relationships between nuclear radiation and public health. RPHP’s mission includes:
  • RESEARCH   Studying the links between low-level radiation and world-wide increases in diseases, especially cancer
    and those affecting the newborn and children and to become the leading, world-wide source of info on
    radiation and public health issues.
  • EDUCATION  Publishing the results of research dealing with the impact of low-level radiation on public health and to disseminate this information to the public, media, policy makers and the scientific community.
  • AWARENESS   Promoting responsible public policy related to radiation in the freedom of information, objective medical and scientific investigation, institutional accountability, Independent oversight, responsible public health and environmental policy.

Joseph J. Mangano, MPH, MBA
Executive Director / Activist

Joseph Mangano is a health researcher who has served RPHP since 1989. Mangano managed the study of Strontium-90 in baby teeth and is author or co-author of 33 medical journal articles on radiation health. Author of the books Low Level Radiation and Immune System Damage: An Atomic Era Legacy (1998) and Radioactive Baby Teeth: The Cancer Link (2008).  Mr. Mangano currently manages the citizen-based radiation monitoring programs near the Indian Point NY and Oyster Creek NJ nuclear plants.

Founded by the husband and wife team of physicians Eric and Louise Reiss, along with other scientists, including Ernest Sternglass PhD, a radiation physicist who testified before the U.S. Senate in support of the Partial Test Ban Treaty in 1963.​
